Holy Redeemer School and CCD students in Grade 8 are prepared for the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation. Students are made aware of the spiritual value of this sacrament and prepared to receive it in full realization of its impact on their life of grace. Confirmation at Holy Redeemer usually takes place in May. It is important that new parishioners whose children are not in a Catholic school contact Mrs. Marylou McDonald, Coordinator of Religious Education to ensure their children are registered in the CCD program. Marylou can be reached at 301-946-9484. For a baptized adult who has not been confirmed, please contact the rectory staff at 301-942-2333.
Please consult with one of the parish priests at least six months in advance of the date planned. Fr. Mark Hughes and Fr. John Winslow can be reached at 301-942-2333.
In the Sacrament of Holy Orders, or ordination, the priest being ordained vows to lead other Catholics by bringing them the sacraments (especially the Eucharist), by proclaiming the Gospel, and by providing other means to holiness.
The sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, formerly known as Last Rites or Extreme Unction, is a ritual of healing appropriate not only to physical but also mental and spiritual illness. Please contact staff at the rectory at 301-942-2333 to arrange a time for this sacrament to be administered.
Although this does not fall under the rubric of Sacrament, the Church assigns great importance to the burial of loved ones, both from the perspective of those who are grieving and from that of the transition of the departed from earthly life to the next. To arrange for a funeral at Holy Redeemer, please contact Fr. Mark Hughes or Fr. John Winslow at 301-942-2333.
