Lorenza (Lorri) Domingues Simmons, age 88, of Kensington, Maryland died on January 1. She was born September 5, 1932 in Rake, Iowa. Mrs. Simmons lived in Montgomery County over 40 years. She was a past appointee of the U.S. Small Business Advisory Council and board member of the Coalition of Minority Women Business Owners. She was the first female member of the Kiwanis of Bethesda and served on the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Citizens Advisory Board and Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Simmons advocated for political involvement and modeled her beliefs through her many years of volunteer service at polling stations, assisting in political campaigns, and running for a seat in the Maryland House of Delegates. Mrs. Simmons was also a devoted Catholic and was involved in charitable work through the church throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace L. Simmons in 1988. Mrs. Simmons is survived by her sisters Mary Campos and Marianne Wiebenga, her son Wally Simmons Jr., her grandsons Emmett and Wesley Simmons, and numerous nieces and nephews.
