The Holy Redeemer community is vibrant, spread out beyond the walls of the church and incorporated into the community where the church serves. We provide local groups and clubs a safe place to meet as well as providing mentoring and training programs. We provide the opportunity for young and old to participate in programs that address the needs of those who live within our local community as well as benefitting those in need in the broader Washington DC area. Please take the time to review our many programs and activities. There may well be one or more that move you to volunteer to help. Often all that is required is a few hours a week or monthly and in some instances only seasonally as is the case in our Winter Coat drive. We are always on the lookout for new volunteers and can assure new ones that they will be joining with a group of dedicated, friendly and positive parishioners who will welcome them to the program.
The Cardinal 5K and 1/2 mile Kids Run/Walk takes place in the fall each year. Participants gather at Holy Redeemer Church parking lot on the day of the race. Hundreds of runners of all ages embrace the brisk fall weather to enjoy a scenic run through Rock Creek Park and the Rock Creek Highlands neighborhood. The course also challenges runners to accomplish "the Hill" on Cedar Lane before turning back into the Holy Redeemer neighborhood. Just after the 5K runners depart, a 1/2 mile race will be held for the smaller kids. In this race, all kids are winners as each Fun Run Finisher receives a medal. The event benefits Holy Redeemer School, our Catholic Parochial co-educational school, grades Kindergarten through 8. There is a post-race party including food and refreshments with entertainment for the whole family. Sponsors generously support this program each year. Specific date and time, contact information for the event and a call for sponsors are published each year in early springn the church bulletin.
